A well-planned routine is essential to restful, restorative sleep, night after night. By trying out some of the healthy sleep-conducive strategies below, you can come up with your own prescription to a good night’s rest.

Sleeping on a regular schedule can help in achieving good sleep. Going to bed at the same time every night, preferably at a time when you normally feel tired, can prevent you from tossing and turning all night. If you find yourself getting sleepy in the middle of the day or way before your bedtime, get up and do mildly stimulating activities, such as washing the dishes or preparing your clothes for the next day.
If you make an effort to create a relaxing bedtime routine, you will sleep easier and more deeply. Make your bedroom more sleep-friendly by keeping the noise down, adjusting the temperature and making sure that your bed is comfortable. You can also try out relaxing bedtime rituals such as taking a warm bath, listening to soft music, or doing some light reading by a soft light.

When you improve your daytime habits, you’re almost guaranteed a good night’s rest. Regular workouts, staying away from big meals at dinnertime, cutting down on caffeine, and doing some relaxing exercises such as yoga or stretching a few hours before bedtime can help promote sleep.
