There’s a certain joy that comes with freeing up space in your home. And because the holiday season is usually the time when people tend to accumulate a lot of things—as wish lists are fulfilled and presents are received—it’s the perfect time to take good, hard look at all of the “stuff” you’ve collected in 2015 and finally get rid of some items.
Post-holiday Trash
Torn shopping bags, crumpled-up wrapping paper, and discarded ribbons? Recycle, reuse, or simply throw these out! Nothing messes with your head and prevents you from enjoying a fresh start this New Year than holiday-themed trash sticking around and cluttering your home. While you’re at it, toss out unused gifts from last year’s holidays as well. You did the right thing and kept them around out of guilt, but you haven’t used them in a year! Save heartfelt holiday cards and gifts you truly cherish and move on!

Old Prescriptions and Expired Bath & Beauty Products
Take the New Year as an opportunity to clean out your bathroom and get rid of old pills, makeup, and toiletries you no longer use. Not only is it unsafe to keep expired products around, they’re also taking up a lot of precious space in your medicine cabinet.
Broken Items
In the last six months, did you make it a priority to fix something but never got around to it? Whether it’s a broken CD player, a chipped vase, or a squeaky stool, toss it! It’s obvious that this item is not a priority to you and you don’t really need it because you were able to stand six months of not using it.

Paper Clutter
Most people have a hodgepodge of old receipts, clothing tags, takeout menus, expired warranties, movie stubs, and unread magazines lurking in a myriad of places at home. So unless it’s important, like a receipt for a big purchase such as furniture, electronics, and appliances, or bills you need to keep for tax purposes, they’ve got to go.
