Whether you realize it or not, your tablescape plays a part in creating a memorable meal for your guests. The good news is, decorating your dinner table doesn’t have to be complicated or worse, expensive. If you’ve always overlooked this part of entertaining, here a few simple tricks you can try to jazz up your next Thanksgiving dinner presentation.

Write Place Cards

There’s something special about seeing a card with your name on it, like you weren’t forgotten by the host and you have your very own spot at the table. If you think your handwriting is not pretty enough, you may be tempted to print them out. However, handwritten place cards lend a more personal, intimate touch.

Place cards are also one of the easiest decoration hacks that leave a big impact with a small caveat—never, ever write “Guest” if you don’t know who your invited guests are bringing with them. As proper etiquette, make the effort to ask your friends for their names in advance or leave the place card blank for your friend to write on it before dinner begins.

Use a Centerpiece

If you’re pressed for time, you can always fall back on a floral arrangement with the season’s colors. But if you want a more personal touch, there are other things or materials you can use as centerpieces, such as candles and twig balls. You may also create a spread that features the season’s produce, mini pumpkins and gourds, nuts, pinecones etc. Your creativity’s the limit!

Prepare The Kids’ Table

Are your guests bringing their children with them? If so, you can prepare a separate kids’ table, complete with activities to keep them entertained. Young guests can get fussy sitting through a long meal, but these craft and play ideas will ensure that they’ll be having fun throughout!
