The winter season can ruin a lot of plans. Aside from the fact that you can barely leave the house because of the harsh weather, staying in bed under the covers seems like a much better idea for most. At some point though, you should really get up and do something productive.

Start with these tasks, which are easier to do during winter:

Clean out your fridge and freezer

If you live somewhere where it’s snowing, the winter season gives you an opportunity to give your refrigerator and freezer a really deep clean and stash all of your food outside without getting into the food safety danger zone. You can try putting the food inside a snowbank for a few hours as well.

Get rid of insect nests

Most insects, such as wasps, are dormant in winter. This makes clearing out their nests from your patio or roof easier to accomplish than if you tried it during summer. When getting rid of insect nests, make sure to wear protective gear, spray the nest with insecticide just to be sure, and then knock it down.

Paint indoors

Painting indoors during the cold months has several pros. Not only does the cold, dry air make wood surfaces shrink and allow you to see the gaps and cracks much easily in your molding before you paint, less humidity in the air also helps the paint dry much faster. On the other hand, cold weather makes it more difficult to ventilate the room. So when painting indoors during winter, see to it that several windows are open and that you’re wearing warm clothes. If you have a portable heater, you may also want to crank it up.
